SAP MII end of life

Leaving SAP MII doesn't mean moving everything to SAP DM

MII 15.5 is the last release, and mainstream maintenance ends in 2027. Spend 30 minutes with our MES team. You find out which parts of your MII are easy to move, which are hard, and which you can switch off.

The SAP MII timeline

  1. 15.5

The last MII release. SAP has no new MII versions planned.

  2. 2027

Mainstream maintenance ends, together with the NetWeaver 7.5 Java stack MII runs on.

  3. 2030

The latest end of extended maintenance, if your SAP contract includes it.

Your exact dates depend on your contract. Check SAP Note 2894103 and the SAP Product Availability Matrix.

Why now

Count back from 2027

What replaces MII

SAP's successor isn't one product, it's four

MII does a lot of different jobs in one box. SAP splits those jobs over separate products, so there's no 1:1 migration. What your MII does today decides what you need next.

Execution

SAP Digital Manufacturing

Shop floor execution in the cloud. Formerly Digital Manufacturing Cloud.

Machines

Plant connectivity tooling

Machine and edge integration. The job SAP PCo does today.

Custom apps

SAP BTP and Integration Suite

Where the custom screens and integrations you built in MII would have to go.

Data

SAP HANA Cloud and Datasphere

Historian and analytics data that MII used to hold.

Your options

Three routes out of MII

None of them is right for every plant. Most companies end up mixing two.

1

Move to SAP Digital Manufacturing

Stay fully in the SAP stack. Makes sense if you want one vendor end to end.

Plan for BTP, Integration Suite and new connectivity tooling too. That's part of the cost and the skills you need.

2

Stay on extended maintenance

Keep MII running until 2030 at the latest. Buys time if your contract covers it.

It's time, not a plan. The exit still has to happen, just later and with less room.

3

Keep SAP ERP, change the shop floor layer

SAP stays your backbone. The operator-facing part of MII moves to a platform built for the shop floor, line by line.

This is where Azumuta fits. The exploration call tells you if it fits your plants.

Where Azumuta fits

Leave MII without leaving SAP

Azumuta runs next to SAP ERP in discrete manufacturing plants. Operators get digital work instructions, quality checks and data capture. Orders and confirmations keep flowing to SAP.

The first question IT always asks: what about our custom MII apps? Most of them turn out to be work instructions, checklists and data capture. Those rebuild in Azumuta without code.

The 30-minute exploration call

30 minutes to know where you stand

You tell us what runs on your MII. We tell you which parts are easy to move, which are hard, and which you can switch off.

  1. 1

You walk us through MII today

Operator screens, ERP interfaces, machine connections, reports. Whatever runs on it.

  2. 2

    We sort each piece

SAP DM, BTP, a shop floor platform, or switch it off. Some MII apps nobody uses anymore.

  3. 3

    You know where you stand

Enough to brief your IT steering committee or your 2027 budget round.

Best with your MES or MII owner and someone from operations in the room.

Questions we get

When does SAP MII support end?

Mainstream maintenance for SAP MII 15.5 ends at the end of 2027. Extended maintenance can run until the end of 2030, depending on your SAP contract.

Is SAP Digital Manufacturing a 1:1 replacement for MII?

No. SAP's way forward combines SAP Digital Manufacturing, plant connectivity tooling, SAP BTP with Integration Suite, and SAP's data products. What MII does today decides which of these you need.

Do we have to leave SAP?

No. Most of the companies we talk to keep SAP as their ERP. The question is only what replaces the shop floor part of MII.

Is the exploration call a sales pitch?

It's a working session with our MES team, not a demo. If Azumuta doesn't fit a part of your MII, we'll say so. What you learn is yours either way.
