Editing a Work Instruction via the Azumuta App
Edit mode lets you adjust a work instruction directly from the Azumuta App — the same screen operators use — without starting a recording. It’s designed for quick, controlled improvements on the shop floor: renaming instruction blocks, updating step descriptions, inserting or removing steps, and adding or removing visuals.
Edits are applied to the work instruction’s draft, so your normal approval workflow still determines when changes become an approved version that operators see during production.
Who Can Edit a Work Instruction via the Azumuta App
To use edit mode, you need:
- The Work Instructions → Edit right on your user.
- To open the work instruction in preview (no active recording or product order).
- A work instruction that is not marked read-only in the work instructions tree. If it is, editing is blocked.
How to Enter Edit Mode
- Open the work instruction in the Azumuta App without starting a recording (preview mode).
- Open the top-bar menu.
- Tap “Edit…” (pencil icon).
- The title at the top updates to indicate you are now in Editing mode.
Note: If you don’t have the Edit right, or if a recording is active, the Edit… action is disabled or not shown.
Editing a Work Instruction’s Name via the Azumuta App
- Click on the sidebar button.
- Navigate to the targeted work instruction and click on it.
- Click on “Rename”.
- Type the new work instruction name.
- Click on “Save”.
Deleting a Work Instruction via the Azumuta App
- Click on the sidebar button.
- Navigate to the targeted work instruction and click on it.
- Click on “Remove”.
- Click on “OK”.
Renaming a Block or Step
In edit mode, block titles and step descriptions become directly editable:
- Tap the title or description of the block or step you want to rename.
- Type the new text.
- The description auto-saves after a short delay — there is no separate Save button.
Note: Descriptions are stored per language. Switch the active language first if you want to edit a translation in another language.
Adding, Moving, or Removing Blocks and Steps
In edit mode, you can restructure a work instruction from the ellipsis (⋮) button next to each block or step in the sidebar.
- Open the work instruction in edit mode.
- In the sidebar, tap the ellipsis (⋮) next to:
- A step to act on that step, or
- A block header to act on that block.
- From the bottom sheet, choose the action you need:
- Move step up / down or Move block up / down
- Insert step above / below or Insert block above / below
- Remove step or Remove block
- When you insert a new step or block, type its title or description — it auto-saves after a short delay (see Renaming a Block or Step above).
After each action, the work instruction reloads so the new order or structure is immediately reflected.
Adding a Step at the End of a Work Instruction via the Azumuta App
When you’re editing a work instruction in the Azumuta App, the last item in the navigation is a blank instruction-step placeholder. Use it to add a new final step to the work instruction:
- Navigate to the end of the work instruction.
- On the blank step, either:
- Tap the title/description and type a description — this creates the step, or
- Tap Add media to insert a picture or video — Azumuta creates the step first and then attaches the media.
- Once the step is created, a fresh blank placeholder appears at the end of the work instruction, so you can keep adding more steps from the same spot.
Adding or Removing Pictures and Videos on a Step
In edit mode, you can attach pictures or videos to any step (including a newly created last step from the blank placeholder).
To add a visual:
- Open the step you want to add a visual to.
- Tap Add media.
- Choose Insert picture from library, Take a picture, or attach a video.
To remove a visual:
- Tap the trash-can icon on the picture or video you want to delete.
- Confirm the removal when Azumuta asks.
Note: More advanced visual editing — annotations, arrows, callouts — can be done afterwards on Azumuta on Web by an admin. See Visuals in a Work Instruction for the full visual editor.
Exiting Edit Mode and Publishing Your Changes
When you’re done editing, simply exit the editor (back or close). Because every change auto-saves as you make it, there’s no extra Save button to press on the way out.
Your edits live on the work instruction’s draft. Operators on the shop floor keep seeing the previously approved version until you publish a new approved version through your normal approval workflow.
